Found this ancient petroglyph on a hike near Boulder, UT! I’m out here at @bouldermountainguestranch getting super excited for this weekend’s event !!! This is a new song I’ve been working on… I started writing it years ago and I find it ever more relevant with the passing of my time and the changes I’ve been going through.

I find it particularly mind blowing to imagine the artist of these figures, perched on this ledge up high, enjoying the same views… wondering what their life was like, what their worries were, and comparing them to my own. Great reminder… of a lot of things… 💀 I feel humbled, and reverent.
.
These petroglyphs were left behind by the “Fremont” people… I put that in quotations because that’s the name assigned to them by an archaeologist in 1930’s, and most certainly not what they called themselves. I did a bit of research and learned that they left no written record of what they called themselves, and could be related to the Navajo, or Diné people, perhaps descendants of Hopi or Ute people. I’m sharing this view with utmost respect- and I left no trace at this important heritage sight. What I found especially sad and frustrating here were the many other scratches and attempts by current humans to tag their name on top / along side these figures. What do you think about that?

Launching this set felt really scary and overwhelming by myself- but I’ve looked around and realized- I’m definitely not by myself. Thank you so much for the support and love and positive energy all around. It’s an honor and privilege to get to be nervous about any of this- current climate as it is… please know that I love you and I love all of this and I am deeply grateful to have a shot.

This is a new song I been workin on- grabbed a beat from @splice then started building it from there… took it on over to @jaredalexandermasters and he added some super magical elements. One of my favs of the new set.

I been grappling with the concept of Karma and Justice- both good and bad.
.
Ultimately, I’ve decided, whether it feels positive or negative, I’m just really glad to be in the game, paying for everything I can while I have the chance.
.
Also- how cool is the view up the bass strings like this? I’ve always geeked on watching bass players hands commmnicate. Weirdly awesome.

A while back, I was chatting about sourdough after a show at @primaltones and I backed into my bass, knocking it over. (NOT AGAIN!!!!!) It seemed fine, but I noticed a little crack on the neck! A few months later I noticed that the crack was getting worse. Then at OCF I had the pleasure of meeting Carson, who agreed to take it on for repair!! I’m SO RELIEVED to have found him and that he was able to take her in- because as soon as the string tension was removed, the crack showed to be more serious than I’d thought. I know she’s in good hands till she’s back in mine!!

Changes this year have been some of the most impactful I’ve experienced… I feel like I am rebuilding in so many ways, most notably, emotionally and artistically. This spring has been a wild germination phase… and I am feeling fatigued lately, but still scratching my way toward the light of summer. I am redefining goals and greeting new purpose, and I am starting to feel ready to open up and share more of this process.

Ok, so, I’m throwing a show. An “Emily Turner band” show- I guess that’s what I’m calling it for now. I made some new songs, and then I convinced some really cool cats to play them me, and so now we’re gonna hash em out live at @local31pub in Ashland on Thursday, May 14th. Covers $10, we’ll play 9/9:30-11:30 or so.
.
I can promise that I will make some mistakes. I can also promise that the vibes gonna be fun as heck, and that these tunes are gonna end up making your bones wiggle in some sort of excitable fashion. My intention with this evening is to let these new song ideas breathe with you in person, to have fun with these wizardly players as they lend their sounds and solos, and to have a good ole time. SO- if you wanna come be part of something that’s actively being built, come thru! I’d love to have you!

It’s gonna be kinda a mix of indie, dance, funk, and jam band type energy.
