Emily Turner is on Spotify!
It’s official- I have an artist page on Spotify! At the time that I’m writing this, the only track visible on my artist page is a song that I appear on, which happens to be my favorite collaboration with Jared Masters titled “Bad Moon”. Check it out by clicking the link below!
But very, VERY soon there will be another little treat there…
Let me explain… Recently I had the great honor of being invited to contribute a performance to Hawaii’s Farmers Union United’s tenth convention! I chose one of my most favorite original songs as an offering to the Goddess of agriculture, of sorts.
I chose to perform the song “Nectar”, in which I playfully describe flirting from a flower’s perspective, using some vocab I picked up from a plant anatomy class at SOU. I felt it was relevant to the agricultural and environmental message of the event after all… and the entire reason for the opportunity I had to play!
Back then in class, as we learned about the detailed process of pollination, I couldn’t help but see the similarities between flowers and women; how we are all breathtakingly beautiful in our own adaptations, and how each of our calls for pollination are similar in their uniqueness, just like the hundreds of thousands of different flowers in this world. It’s an ode to our generalized roles in nature, with the tiniest tongue in cheek touch of erotica, too, because… why not combine that with botany? (I’ve emphasized generalized here as a nod to the full spectrum of identities out there… Nothing but love and respect here!)
Performing this song with Jared Masters for the HFUU event inspired me to re-release the studio version of the song, which was originally recorded in 2016 and released on the Verbs & Nouns album that year. The album has since disappeared from major platforms, and in order to keep the song alive and around for anyone to enjoy, we decided to update it, have it re-mastered, and re-release it on my platform to help establish and claim my artist pages… but that’s all part of a bigger plan that I’ll be talking about soon!
So! IF you feel so inclined, give me a follow on Spotify and keep an eye out for the re-mastered studio produced version of my song Nectar!
